F.A.Q.
Will my dog pull me over?
It's a possibility, but it's unlikely! As long as you have suitable footwear on, wear the right kit and stick to sensible paths then you should be fine. Your instructor will keep you and your group to the level necessary. The line that attaches you to your dog is a bungee lead and therefore absorbs any sudden jolting. By learning the commands the we teach you for your dog, this will help you to manage your speed and balance too.
What equipment do I need?
A canicross waistbelt for yourself, these are specifically designed to prevent any back strain, a harness for your dog, there are different styles depending on the size and breed of your dog and a bungee style running lead. This attaches you together. Here at Wild Trail we do have kit available for hire and can measure up and provide advice on kit requirements.
How old does my dog need to be to start?
For most breeds this is usually around the age of 1 year, although particularly large breeds may need to wait a bit longer. We recommend consulting with your vet before introducing them to ensure their bones and joints are fully developed.
Can any breed take part?
Any dog, even small breeds can do Canicross! As long as the dog is willing and able!

"Just finished couch 2 5k course with Wild Trail Wellness. We have really enjoyed our 6 weeks course Louisa is welcoming, knowledgeable and explains things well .
We started off running with no experience , and in 6 weeks have managed to run 5k , it’s lovely to be able to get out and run with my dog .
Wild Trail Wellness is highly recommended , if you want some fun and to build a bond with your dog whilst getting fit , this is the place to contact."
Thank you from Beth and Eden
"I recently had my first Cani-cross run with Louisa, and it was an incredible experience! I’m now eager to get a harness because running hands-free with my dog was such a joy, and it saved my back compared to the waist leads I’ve tried before. These harnesses really support you by going around your legs. Louisa is an outstanding coach—knowledgeable, patient, and such a fun person to be around. I highly recommend booking a session with her; she truly knows her stuff and was fantastic with my dog, Bennie. I can’t wait for more sessions in the future! Plus, her lovely dog Max came along to keep Bennie company, and he enjoyed having a buddy to run with. Thank you, Lou, for an amazing time!"

"Winning a place to try canicross as a beginner was an unexpected treat, and the whole experience turned out brilliant for both me and my dog, Sarge. From the start, we were made to feel welcome, and the friendly atmosphere helped settle any newbie nerves. Sarge absolutely loved the dash through the trails—he was buzzing the entire time, making it clear this is his sort of adventure. Would happily recommend giving canicross a go, especially if you’ve got an energetic canine companion like Sarge!"
